Scottish pro-independence campaigners take to streets in Glasgow

Protesters in Glasgow, Scotland are taking to the streets to campaign for their country’s independence for the first time this year, VOICEPRESS reports citing Sputnik.

The “emergency” march is believed to be the first of eight marches the pro-independence All Under One Banner (AUOB) group is planning to organise following the Scottish National Party’s win of 48 out of 59 seats in Scotland last month, BBC reported.

The protests follow Britain’s parliamentary vote on Thursday, which finally approved Boris Johnson’s divorce deal, paving the way for the country to leave the European Union on 31 January.

In a 2014 referendum, Scottish voters chose to remain in the United Kingdom in a 55% to 45% margin, but polls now suggest that more people would back a pro-independence option.
