Pakistan Supreme Court acquitted a Christian woman from blasphemy.
A Christian woman Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 for allegedly insulting the Holy Prophet Muhammad(Peace be upon Him) and was sentenced to death.

She was in solitary confinement for the last eight years.

Huge protests broke out in all major cities including capital Islamabad after the verdict was announced earlier last day.

A hardliner Islamist cleric and patron in chief of Tehreek e Labbak Pakistan Peer Afzal Qadri has issued a fatwa,(an Islamic decree) that Chief Justice of Pakistan and all those supreme judges who ordered to release the Asia Bibi, deserve death.

On the terms of privacy, an official from the Ministry of Interior told the voicepress. az that, The government of Pakistan has imposed severe censorship on all national media and strictly advise them not to cover the protest news.

All major highways and links roads are blocked in the country, millions of people are stuck in the vehicles, since last 24 hours.
Asia Bibi case widely attracted international media outlets while former Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer was killed by his bodyguard Mumtaz Qadri.

Salman Taseer showed his concerns about the misuse of blasphemy laws, which resulted in his killing, similarly, the Federal Minister for the Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti was killed for taking some interest in this case.

A prominent lawyer and former office holder of Bar Association Muhammed Belal Qadri told the voicepress. az that, Asia Bibi was convicted for blasphemy under section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly defaming Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). The offense carries a mandatory death penalty under this law.

Another senior Police official Zia Ur Rehman told voicepress. az that, In June 2009, she was blamed for using insulting words about Holy Prophet Muhammed(Peace be upon).Reportedly this has happened during arguments with some local Muslim women.

Lately, local police had registered a criminal case against her, and she was arrested after the local police investigation.

In November 2010, the trial court convicted Asia Bibi for blasphemy and sentenced her to death. In 2015, Supreme Court suspended death sentence for appeal processes.

A supreme court bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel overturned the death sentence of Asia Bibi.

The ruling, which was welcomed by human rights advocates, was strongly condemned by radical Islamist parties who blocked roads in major cities of the country immediately after the decision.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, while addressing the nation last night urged the people to keep calm and cool and asked the nation to abide by the state s law.

He vowed that state will utilize all possible resources to maintain law and order situation in the country.
